EMDR Therapy
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and emotional distress.
It involves a structured eight-phase process, during which a trained therapist uses bilateral stimulation, typically through guided eye movements, to help reframe distressing memories.
EMDR is based on the understanding that trauma can interfere with the brain's natural healing processes, causing individuals to become "stuck" in their emotions and thoughts. By reprocessing these memories, EMDR aims to reduce their emotional charge and integrate them in a healthier way, ultimately leading to reduced symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and other trauma-related conditions.
The therapy has been extensively researched and is recognized as an effective treatment for trauma, providing lasting relief and helping clients regain emotional balance.

What EMDR Looks Like
EMDR is an eight-phase protocol that includes stages of assessment, stabilization, and processing. The length of time it takes to reach the processing phase depends on the collaborative work between you and your therapist, as we prioritize your comfort and readiness throughout the journey.
In an EMDR processing session, you will work closely with your therapist to identify specific memories or experiences that are causing emotional distress.
During the session, you will be gently guided to focus on thoughts, images, and sensations related to the memory, while being supported to “go with it” as you allow yourself to experience the material. Bilateral stimulation—such as guided eye movements or tapping—will be introduced, helping your brain process the memory in a more adaptive way.
This unique approach allows your brain to integrate the experiences in a healthier manner, reducing the emotional charge attached to them. As the process unfolds, you may notice significant shifts in how you feel about the memory, experiencing less distress or emotional reactivity. Over time, this leads to long-term relief from the negative impact of trauma, anxiety, and other unresolved emotions, helping you to move forward with greater emotional balance and resilience.
